Beer Brats

I decided to try my hand at homemade hot dog buns so I figured what better time than to cook some brats! I was inspired by the Wisconsin Beer Brats by Meggan Hill recipe. I also made my brats with a side of beer cheese sauce check out my recipes and see if it doesn’t become a favorite of yours.

These are great for any barbeque with friends or even a weeknight meal! Hope you enjoy!

Ingredients

  • 10 Bratwurst raw
  • 1 Large onion thinly sliced
  • 4 12 ounces cans of beer (Modelo Especial)
  • 1 Tablespoon Chicken bouillon
  • 10 Brat buns, split for serving
  • Beer cheese sauce
  • Ketchup and mustard for serving
  • Sauerkraut for serving

Instructions

  • Preheat the pot or pan over to medium-high heat. In a large pot over medium-high heat, add brats, onion, beer and chicken bouillon.
  • Bring to a boil then reduce heat. Simmer until brats are cooked through. This will take about 10 to 12 minutes.
  • Remove brats to a bowl or platter.
  • Continue cooking onions in beer while grilling the brats. When done, drain off the beer.
  • Grill the brats on medium turning the brats as needed, until browned (this will take about 5 minutes on each side.)
  • Serve brats in buns, ladle beer cheese sauce over, cover with onions. Top with any additional toppings you like.
