Equipment

  • 1 oven-safe 9x 13 baking dish

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 3 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 cups self-rising flour
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • Chocolate Cobbler Topping:
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 3 cups boiling water
  • soft serve vanilla ice cream for serving (optional)

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 350º F.
  • Get a place the salted butter into a 9×13 oven-safe baking dish and into the oven to melt. Make sure to watch it so it just melts.
  • Then, remove from the oven and set aside. Allow the butter to cool down you don't want it to bubble.
  • Now mix together the sugar, cocoa powder, flour, milk, and vanilla extract for the batter. Slowly mixture into the baking dish on top of the melted butter. DO NOT STIR. (You want to make sure it's layered.)
  • For the Chocolate Cobbler Topping.
  • In a separate bowl, mix 2 cups sugar and ½ cup cocoa powder. Sprinkle this pretty topping mixture on top of the batter, again DO NOT STIR. Pour the boiling water over the sugar mixture topping.
  • Bake for 35 to 40 minutes or until top is set. The oven should still be at 350° temp. The bottom of the cobbler will still be loose. Allow to cool for 15 to 20 minutes.
  • Now Top with soft serve vanilla ice cream (optional) and eat and enjoy!

Notes

You can't not stop eating this chocolate cobbler, it's so good!
