Homemade Rolls

Equipment
- 1 baking dish 9 x 13
- 1 bench scraper
Ingredients
- 3 cups bread flour
- 1 cup milk plus 1 tablespoon
- 2 1/2 teaspoons Instant yeast or 1 packet
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 6 tablespoons unsalted butter melted (see notes)
- 2 Tablespoons unsalted butter melted (for brushing)
Instructions
Heat up the butter first and allow to cool down. If its to hot it will kill the yeast.
- Heat the milk to 100° F, add in the yeast. Stir to combine.
- Add the sugar to the yeast mixture and stir until dissolved. Let sit for 10 minutes until yeast mixture starts to foam.
- Add the egg, salt, and melted butter. Stir to combine.
- Add yeast mixture to a mixing bowl. Using a rubber spatula, slowly add the bread flour 1 cup at a time until all the flour is added. Cover and allow the dough to rest for 20 minutes in a warm place (see notes).
- Turn the dough onto a lightly floured work surface and knead for 8 minutes. Cover the dough and let the dough rest for 10 minutes.
- Cut the dough into 20 equal pieces.
- Prep a glass 9×11 baking dish by greasing it.
- Roll each dough by hand into ball shape pinching the edges if need. Prep a glass 9×11 baking dish by greasing it. place each dough ball in the pan 4 x 5.
- Cover and let sit for 1 1/2 hours in a warm place.
- 30 minutes before the 1 1/2 hours is up, preheat the oven to 375° F.
- Cook for 15 to 20 minutes until golden brown.
- Remove the rolls from the oven. Brush on melted unsalted butter and allow to cool on a wire cooling rack. (Optionally add some smoked sea salt on top with after the melted butter)
- Eat and enjoy with friends!
Notes
These are soo good! Taste just like King’s Hawaiian Original Hawaiian Sweet Dinner Rolls but so much better!
It is not necessary to activate instant yeast. The process would be the same if you are using active dry yeast.
Allow the melted butter to cool slightly before adding it to the dough mixture.
The ideal temperature for rising dough is about 80° F. An off oven with the light on is a great place to let your dough rise. Do not use the warm setting as it will be too hot.
