Equipment

  • baking dish 9 x 13
  • bench scraper

Ingredients

  • 6 Tablespoons Unsalted butter melted (see notes)
  • 1 cup Milk plus 1 tablespoon
  • 2 1/4 teaspoons Instant yeast with dough enhancer (1 packet) or 1 packet instant yeast
  • 1/4 cup Granulated sugar
  • 1 Large egg
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 3 cups Bread flour
  • 2 Tablespoons Unsalted butter save for brushing top when done

Instructions

  • Heat up the butter first and allow to cool down to 110°, If its to hot it will kill the yeast.
  • Heat the milk to 100° F, add in the yeast. Stir to combine.
  • Add the sugar to the instant yeast mixture and stir until dissolved. (Unless you are using active yeast Let sit for 10 minutes until yeast mixture starts to foam.)
  • Add the egg, salt, and melted butter. Stir to combine.
  • Add yeast mixture to a mixing bowl. Using a rubber spatula, slowly add the bread flour 1 cup at a time until all the flour is added. Cover and allow the dough to rest for 20 minutes in a warm place (see notes).
  • Turn the dough onto a lightly floured work surface and knead for 8 minutes. Cover the dough and let the dough rest for 10 minutes.
  • Cut the dough into 20 equal pieces.
  • Prep a glass 9×13 baking dish by greasing it with a non stick spray or a little bit of softened butter.
  • Roll each dough ball by hand into ball shape pinching the edges if need. Place each dough ball in the pan 4 x 5.
  • Cover and let sit for 1 1/2 hours in a warm place.
  • 30 minutes before the 1 1/2 hours is up, preheat the oven to 375° F.
  • Bake for 15 to 20 minutes until golden brown.
  • Remove the rolls from the oven. Brush on melted unsalted butter and allow to cool on a wire cooling rack. (Optionally, sprinkle with flaked sea salt on top after the melted butter).
  • Eat and enjoy with friends!

Notes

  • These are soo good! Taste just like King’s Hawaiian Original Hawaiian Sweet Dinner Rolls but so much better because they're homemade!
  • It is not necessary to activate instant yeast. The process would be the same if you are using active dry yeast.
  • Allow the melted butter to cool slightly before adding it to the dough mixture.
  • The ideal temperature for rising dough is about 80° F. An off oven with the light on is a great place to let your dough rise. Do not use the warm setting as it will be too hot.
