Sloppy Joes
After following the recipe I ended up changing quite a few things. What I was left with is without a doubt the best sloppy joes I have ever had! I tripled the recipe and glad I did after sharing some with friends and family I have just about enough for leftover’s.

This recipe was inspired by a sloppy joes recipe found on Natasha’s Kitchen. After following the recipe I ended up changing quite a few things. What I was left with is without a doubt the best sloppy joes I have ever had! I tripled the recipe and glad I did after sharing some with friends and family I have just about enough for leftover’s.
Ingredients
- 1/2 large yellow onion finely diced
- 6 garlic cloves minced
- 4 Tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
- 4 teaspoons yellow mustard
- 3 Tablespoons light brown sugar
- 2 – 24 oz cans of marinara sauce blended (about 5 – 1/2 cups)
- 4 Tablespoons ketchup
- 3 pounds ground beef 80% lean
- 4 Tablespoons oil high smoke like avocado
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Lawry's® Seasoned Salt to taste
- 4 teaspoons Kendra's all-porpose seasoning
Instructions
- Finely dice the onion. Seed and dice the green pepper.
- In a large bowl, mix together the Worcestershire, yellow mustard, sugar, marinara sauce, and ketchup until smooth.
- Using a large Dutch oven over medium high heat, add half the oil and cook the hamburger meat. Season with salt, pepper, and season salt to taste. Cook until no longer pink remove and drain the burger grease .
- Add the other half of the oil to the Dutch oven. Sauté the peppers and onions for 5 minutes or until soft. Add the garlic and sauté for another 30 seconds or until fragrant.
- Add the burger meat back to the Dutch oven. Add the sauce and bring to a boil. Reduce the heat to medium low heat. Simmer uncovered for 30 minutes or until thickened to your liking.
Notes
- The ground beef I used in this recipe was home made ground beef. The taste is so much better than store bought. Even though hand made ground beef is better, my suggestion is to use 80% 20% ground beef since it has a good amount of fat (fat=flavor).
- I learned my lesson on not draining the ground beef. The beef was filled with grease and water that had to be cooked down for a longer amount of time.
- Although the original recipe was a good start I felt like the changes I made took this recipe to a new level. My memory of sloppy joes was always more vinegary than sweet.
