Smash Burgers are the best thing for summer cooking along with anything else grilled. I do these on a charcoal grill because they cook best with high heat, and of course that wonderful smoky flavor! The credit for this recipe goes to Guga Foods.

Can't beat a great burger, and smash burgers are my favorite! Quick and affordable to make and a great choice for your next barbeque!
Equipment
- Food scale (if available)
- Charcoal Grill
- Heat-resistant gloves
- charcoal
- 2 Heavy Duty Spatulas (one for for smashing and one for pressing and flipping)
Ingredients
- 2 lbs. 80 / 20 ground beef
- American cheese slices
- Burger buns we like the brioche buns
- Kinder’s seasoning “The Blend”
- Cooked thick-cut bacon slices cut in half
- Sauce Ingredients
- 1 part Ketchup
- 3/4 part Mayo
- 1/4 part Mustard
- 1/4 part Brazilian Hot Sauce from Amazon
Instructions
- In a medium bowl, stir together all sauce ingredients for serving with the burgers.
- Start the charcoal grill. When hot, put the skillet onto the grill top to get the cast iron skillet piping hot close to 500° F or hotter.
- Separate the burger into patties of 2.5 oz per each burger, then smash each of the burger balls to a thin patty.
- Sprinkle the Kinder’s seasoning on the top of the patties.
- Quickly fry each of the patties in the pan, then flip the patty and fry the other side (it will take about 2 minutes for each patty depending on the temperature of the grill).
- Place one American cheese slice onto a patty, then top with another patty so that each bun will have a double burger. Top burgers with the bacon slices.
- Place on a plate and add to oven under the “Keep Warm” setting.
- Quickly grill the buns to toast them, they only take 10 seconds to toast. Serve burgers on buns with the sauce and whatever other toppings you desire.
Notes
- I found this works better on the charcoal grill since electric grills don’t get hot enough. The hotter the better. I get a charcoal grill up to about 500° F. But in a pinch you can cook them on a gas or electric grill or even on the stove top.
- American cheese has the best melting ability but if you prefer a different type of cheese -- go for it!
- Brioche buns are in my opinion the best we also like to use potato buns.
