This chocolate chip cookie bar recipe is a delicious go to recipe for us! They can be made with or without the nuts, or easily substitute white chocolate or peanut butter chips or any other kind for a different taste — always delicious!

Equipment
- 1 8 inch square pan
- hand mixer
Ingredients
- 1/3 cup Shortening
- 1 cup Light brown sugar
- 1 Large egg
- 1 teaspoon Vanilla
- 1 cup Flour
- 1/4 teaspoon Baking soda
- 1/4 teaspoon Salt
- 3/4 cup Chocolate chips
- 1/2 cup Nuts optional
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350° F.
- Spray pan with cooking spray.
- With hand mixer cream together shortening and brown sugar. Add the egg and vanilla extract and continue to mix until combined.
- In a small bowl stir together flour, baking soda, and salt.
- Mix dry ingredients into wet ingredients a little at a time, stirring after each addition and mix until just combined (you may need to switch to hand mixing the dough at some point).
- Stir in chocolate chips and nuts.
- Spread mixture evenly into prepared baking pan.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes.
Notes
- For a 9 x 13 pan, double the ingredients.
- The nuts are optional and can be omitted.
- This recipe calls for regular Crisco vegetable shortening, but you can try it with butter flavor, I'm sure it will be just as delicious!
- Try other types of chips such as peanut butter or white chips for different flavor.
