With hand mixer cream together shortening and brown sugar. Add the egg and vanilla extract and continue to mix until combined.
In a small bowl stir together flour, baking soda, and salt.
Mix dry ingredients into wet ingredients a little at a time, stirring after each addition and mix until just combined (you may need to switch to hand mixing the dough at some point).
Stir in chocolate chips and nuts.
Spread mixture evenly into prepared baking pan.
Bake for 25-30 minutes.
Notes
For a 9 x 13 pan, double the ingredients.
The nuts are optional and can be omitted.
This recipe calls for regular Crisco vegetable shortening, but you can try it with butter flavor, I'm sure it will be just as delicious!
Try other types of chips such as peanut butter or white chips for different flavor.
