Truth time: I’m completely obsessed with spicy peppers. I got so into it that I started dehydrating habaneros so I could grind them into powder and add a kick to recipes like my mango chamoy fruit leather.
Lesson learned. If you’re turning dried peppers into powder, do it in a very well-ventilated space. Otherwise, the airborne spice dust will have you sneezing uncontrollably.

Equipment

  • 1 dehydrator or oven at a low setting

Ingredients

  • Whole fresh Habanero Peppers

Instructions

  • Chop each pepper in half and rove the stem and seeds.
  • Add the peppers in a single layer to a dehydrator or a 140° F oven. Dehydrate for several hours until they are completely dry and brittle. Check on the pepper every now and then to make sure you are not dehydrating them too much.

Notes

This can be done with any pepper. Just make sure to remove the stem, seeds, and veins from them before dehydrating.
It is important to cut out discarded peppers with rotted parts on them. One contaminated pepper can ruin an entire batch!
I ended up with only 2 Tablespoons of pepper power after using about 2 dozen peppers so get way more than you think you need. These will turn into almost nothing.
